Getting Your Summer Pots Ready For Fall

We are nearing the end of August, and unfortunately our Summer annuals are getting leggy and droopy. Below I will show you how to amp up your Summer pots to hold you over until we really dress them up for Fall, without breaking the bank!

I love smart shopping at my local nurseries and hardware stores to find annuals on a dime. I found these beautiful Fall annuals for a decent price down the street from my house! There are a lot of Fall annuals on the shelves right now for those of you who can't wait for October.

One of my clients has large pedestal planters that fill in amazingly, but the Summer annuals are getting a little out of control. With some quick pruning, clipping, and transplanting your Summer pots will look fabulous!

For those of you who love to plant Coleus like me...they tend to get a little leggy. Meaning they will grow and grow until you can hardly see your other beauties, but the colors are so eye-popping! All you have to do is pinch back the flowers while leaving some leaves and this will encourage new, fuller growth.

I also decided to transplant one of the fuller Coleus in the front of the pot to my garden in order to make room for the elegant Ornamental Cabbage I picked up for a deal. Just by planting a couple Fall Cabbage you can start getting ready for the beauty of Fall.

The Mandevilla Vine growing around the obelisk is getting a little out of control too. If you have a climbing perennial or annual that is getting a little rambunctious, then simply wrap it back around your object to give it a little direction. Doing this will also give it more strength so that it is not trying to cling to other plants.

Also, make sure you take a look at your annuals to clean up any sad or dead looking foliage. Simply prune these back to the stem to encourage new growth.

Lastly, I always love to weave my plants throughout one another so that my pots look more organic in nature. This will encourage the plants to grow and weave around each other over time, which I think makes for a better looking pot!

I love to dress my pots for all of the seasons! For those of you who get a little anxious for Fall, or whatever season is your favorite...don't be afraid to ask around if it is okay to start planting the next seasonal annuals. Most nurseries or stores start selling them early so you can enjoy whatever season you want!

I love it...I hope you love it too!
