Creating Beautiful Arrangements of Varying Heights Throughout Your Home

I love creating statement pieces for my garden and around my home. One of my absolute favorites is floral arrangements placed on top of a candle stick. It is so dramatic and I bet you have at least one candle stick around your home. Then you can cut flowers from your garden or even find greenery on a little nature hike, place them on top of the candlesticks and voila!

As I was walking through one of my favorite, local thrift stores, I found all of these beautiful knick knacks and candle holders. By using the little candle holders that I found, you can create a great punch of color in any setting with such a small container.

I found these little glass containers in the candle aisle in a bin below for 50 cents a piece!

Next the items you will need are called "Oasis Foam" and "Oasis Tape". These can be found at any craft or floral store. It comes in many shapes and sizes, and is easily cut to fit any container. The nice thing about the foam is that it is used in floral arrangements to hold the water for the flowers or greenery to absorb over long periods of time.

First things first, you have to cut the foam to fit the container, then squish and press it in. Don't worry about damaging it, as it becomes a sponge to provide the water to the plant.

Next you want to use the "Oasis Tape" to hold the container in place on top of your candle stick. This will allow the container to stay in place even after you have inserted all of your flowers. Don't worry, all of your beautiful greenery will hide the tape. The reason that I have not inserted the foam into this one yet is because I wanted to show you how to properly mount the container to the candle stick. Super simple!

Here is the greenery that I have chosen for my arrangements. You can add any fresh cut flowers or foliage. The trailing English Ivy I found trailing down a wall.

Now here comes the fun part, adding your greenery! I like to start with my largest leaves first, as they will provide some stability and height to my arrangement. Simply add water to the foam and start placing in.

Then I add the medium sized greenery. I love the way the chartreuse of the Corral Bells plays off the Autumn Fern.

Thirdly I add the trailers. Doing this will allow some color and texture to fall around your candlestick for a more dramatic feel.

Lastly comes the small random leaves. It will take approximately 3 minutes to add the water to the foam. Your first filling of the container will be completely absorbed by the Oasis. Keep adding water until the Oasis stops absorbing and you have water in the container.

These arrangements are some of my favorite, because you can play with such amazing colors and textures in beautiful ways and varying heights according to the height of your candle stick. I added some Geraniums for a final pop of color.  The variety of what you can use is endless. In the Spring beautiful, flowering trees are everywhere and greenery is sprouting. In the Fall its fun to find branches with Fall color leaves, twigs with acorns, and a Chrysanthemum or two. In the Winter put in Evergreen twigs, bare branch twigs, wire a couple of pinecones to the container is what I have done in the past. They provide such a pop of color and drama in any setting in or outside of your home.

I love it...I hope you love it too!
