5 Things You Can Create with a Cage Chandelier

I absolutely love shopping at my local Habitat for Humanity 'Restore'! There are always little gems to be found and this lovely woman helped me find the perfect cage chandeliers! Below I will show you what you can create with these elegant pieces. I won't overload you with a lot of verbiage, but they are step by step. Hope you love it like I do!

A Plant Container

I love creating organic pieces to showcase life and nature inside my home! I created this beautiful piece with a ceiling light fixture and some air plants that I found at my local garden center. This can also be used as a normal plant container as it already has a drainage hole in the bottom!

Air plants do not need drainage holes as they do not require a lot of water, and I didn't want any of the items to fall out the bottom so I simply covered it with a piece of tape.

Both of these I found in the "Fairy Garden" section of the nursery. You can decorate the mini-terrariums with anything that you decide, but I wanted to keep mine as organic as possible while still having a very elegant feel.

Air plants are such an easy way to add nature to any display. They don't require soil, and only have to be lightly sprayed with water once a week! Aren't they precious!?

A Faux Wrought Iron Chandelier

I decided to use the other one in a very different way. I simply removed the glass inserts and left all the original hardware. I spray painted it black, then sponge painted it with copper for an antique look. Love it!

A Beautiful Candle Display

Next I wanted to use the big cage chandeliers to create something sleek, elegant, and architectural. You can use these for an endless number of displays as the glass and geometrical feel give it a great punch in any room or setting. They are super easy to use and alter. You all know I love thrift stores and estate sales! I found these beautiful brass candle plates 3 for a dollar. Can you believe it? Secondly, they fit perfectly in the bottom of the displays!

A Nature Terrarium

This is my favorite piece in my living room. I took it apart just like the candle display, but decided to display nature this time. I found a butterfly cocoon that I very carefully transplanted into the chandelier, added some moss and sticks. Now I get to watch him hatch into a butterfly, and you could add air plants or succulents to the bottom for even more beauty.

OR an Elegant Bedside lamp!

Lastly, I chose to remove the bottom of the chandelier to create the base for a couple of elegant bedside tables. This is a little more difficult, but can be done. Carefully remove the metal and glass from the bottom third. You may want to add some rubber stoppers to keep it from scratching the surface you pick to place them.
