I love creating statement pieces for my garden and around my home. One of my absolute favorites is floral arrangements placed on top of a candle stick. It is so dramatic and I bet you have at least one candle stick around your home. Then you can cut flowers from your garden or even find greenery on a little nature hike, place them on top of the candlesticks and voila! As I was walking through one of my favorite, local thrift stores, I found all of these beautiful knick knacks and candle holders. By using the little candle holders that I found, you can create a great punch of color in any setting with such a small container. I found these little glass containers in the candle aisle in a bin below for 50 cents a piece! Next the items you will need are called "Oasis Foam" and "Oasis Tape". These can be found at any craft or floral store. It comes in many shapes and sizes, and is easily cut to fit any container. The nice thing about the foam is that it is used in floral arrangements to hold the water for the flowers or greenery to absorb over long periods of time. First things first, you have to cut the foam to fit the container, then squish and press it in. Don't worry about damaging it, as it becomes a sponge to provide the water to the plant. Next you want to use the "Oasis Tape" to hold the container in place on top of your candle stick. This will allow the container to stay in place even after you have inserted all of your flowers. Don't worry, all of your beautiful greenery will hide the tape. The reason that I have not inserted the foam into this one yet is because I wanted to show you how to properly mount the container to the candle stick. Super simple! Here is the greenery that I have chosen for my arrangements. You can add any fresh cut flowers or foliage. The trailing English Ivy I found trailing down a wall. Now here comes the fun part, adding your greenery! I like to start with my largest leaves first, as they will provide some stability and height to my arrangement. Simply add water to the foam and start placing in. Then I add the medium sized greenery. I love the way the chartreuse of the Corral Bells plays off the Autumn Fern. Thirdly I add the trailers. Doing this will allow some color and texture to fall around your candlestick for a more dramatic feel. Lastly comes the small random leaves. It will take approximately 3 minutes to add the water to the foam. Your first filling of the container will be completely absorbed by the Oasis. Keep adding water until the Oasis stops absorbing and you have water in the container. These arrangements are some of my favorite, because you can play with such amazing colors and textures in beautiful ways and varying heights according to the height of your candle stick. I added some Geraniums for a final pop of color. The variety of what you can use is endless. In the Spring beautiful, flowering trees are everywhere and greenery is sprouting. In the Fall its fun to find branches with Fall color leaves, twigs with acorns, and a Chrysanthemum or two. In the Winter put in Evergreen twigs, bare branch twigs, wire a couple of pinecones to the container is what I have done in the past. They provide such a pop of color and drama in any setting in or outside of your home.

I absolutely love shopping at my local Habitat for Humanity 'Restore'! There are always little gems to be found and this lovely woman helped me find the perfect cage chandeliers! Below I will show you what you can create with these elegant pieces. I won't overload you with a lot of verbiage, but they are step by step. Hope you love it like I do! A Plant ContainerI love creating organic pieces to showcase life and nature inside my home! I created this beautiful piece with a ceiling light fixture and some air plants that I found at my local garden center. This can also be used as a normal plant container as it already has a drainage hole in the bottom! Air plants do not need drainage holes as they do not require a lot of water, and I didn't want any of the items to fall out the bottom so I simply covered it with a piece of tape. Both of these I found in the "Fairy Garden" section of the nursery. You can decorate the mini-terrariums with anything that you decide, but I wanted to keep mine as organic as possible while still having a very elegant feel. Air plants are such an easy way to add nature to any display. They don't require soil, and only have to be lightly sprayed with water once a week! Aren't they precious!? A Faux Wrought Iron ChandelierI decided to use the other one in a very different way. I simply removed the glass inserts and left all the original hardware. I spray painted it black, then sponge painted it with copper for an antique look. Love it! A Beautiful Candle DisplayNext I wanted to use the big cage chandeliers to create something sleek, elegant, and architectural. You can use these for an endless number of displays as the glass and geometrical feel give it a great punch in any room or setting. They are super easy to use and alter. Here are the step by step pictures. You all know I love thrift stores and estate sales! I found these beautiful brass candle plates 3 for a dollar. Can you believe it? Secondly, they fit perfectly in the bottom of the displays! A Nature TerrariumThis is my favorite piece in my living room. I took it apart just like the candle display, but decided to display nature this time. I found a butterfly cocoon that I very carefully transplanted into the chandelier, added some moss and sticks. Now I get to watch him hatch into a butterfly, and you could add air plants or succulents to the bottom for even more beauty. OR an Elegant Bedside lamp!Lastly, I chose to remove the bottom of the chandelier to create the base for a couple of elegant bedside tables. This is a little more difficult, but can be done. Carefully remove the metal and glass from the bottom third. You may want to add some rubber stoppers to keep it from scratching the surface you pick to place them. This "Make-A-Lamp Kit" can be found at nearly any hardware store, and is really easy to install with step-by-step instructions included with your purchase. How easy! The lamp hardware fits perfectly! Like I always say, creativity and inspiration can be found anywhere. I found the cage chandeliers for a steal at my local Habitat for Humanity and gave them new life as elegant pieces throughout my home. Anyone can accomplish these projects without breaking your bank account.
