The Perfect Indoor Houseplants to Keep You Company During the Cold Winter Months

As you know I love to bring my plants indoors so they can stay warm during the Winter months like I do. But, there are a few that I absolutely adore to place around my home before they make their way back outside in the Spring...or maybe I will love them so much that they will stay inside all the time. Either way I am going to show you some of my most favorite tropical plants and succulents/ cactus to have as house plants. 

Doesn't my little Dusty look so cute! I could talk about him all day but none the less we are here to talk about house plants. This particular plant that I chose to place in my seating area is a Bromeliad. One of my favorite indoor plants because it is a succulent which means it requires not much water or TLC. Also, if its a Summer blooming plant, you can fake it a little bit by placing a faux flower.

I knew I had a table and found a pot that would fit perfectly. Always figure out where you're going to be placing your plant and what you're going to be planting before heading to the nursery. 

Here is another cactus I chose to place on a coffee table. One of my favorite spots to put house plants. It adds so much warmth to the room. This cactus is named Kalanchoe. It needs a lot of light and to dry out between watering. Love it! If you are going to be using it in a place that you may need to move it from time to time, make sure its not too heavy to lift every time. Make sure you don't pick a plant that will get so large you block the television either!

This pretty tropical plant is named Fiddly Fig. Everyone loves to grow these, and most designers love it in its tree form for homes. But you must, must, let it dry out between watering and make sure it gets at least six hours of sunlight. 

This is a different variety of Blooming Kalanchoe that is actually a succulent that  I love to adorn my home with. Here is a little secret...if you choose a small container, pick a plant that likes to dry out so you don't have to babysit it all the time. 

This little beauty is a Strawberry Begonia. I love this one not for its blooms, but for the amazing colors in the leaves. You can find ones with hints of purple, red, violet, and so many others. Keep in mind, this is not a Begonia known for its flowers. If you would like one that has waxy leaves and pretty flowers...it will not do well inside. These plants love shade and moisture, so a bathroom is a perfect spot!

This gorgeous plant that is perfect for the home is a Hoya plant. It can handle dappled sun that peaks thru your windows, you can drape it inside a pot, train it around a wire topiary, or simply let it trail. There are a lot of leaf color choices, but my fave is the white bordered that always sparkles in the sun. 

Lastly here is my absolutely, without a doubt favorite house plant. Italian Herbs! Herbs are so easy to grow indoors and can even be started from seed. Grow these little babies by a window and then have fresh Parsley whenever you need it in the kitchen. They do like a lot of water and sunlight, but with those conditions and some love, you will have a beautiful houseplant that you can even eat. What more could you ask for!? 

Remember when thinking of bringing the beauty of nature indoors that you take in account the amount of natural light you have and humidity. The two biggest sins when having houseplants is over watering and incorrect sun exposure. Don't be afraid to do your research or comment below and I will be more than happy to respond with answers.
